Classes

Shirley Goodwin, owner of Tillia Dyes, has been quilting for over 17 years and dyeing her own fabric for the past 7 years. She is available to teach the following classes (classes are 1 day (6 hour) classes unless otherwise stated)

Dyeing classes:

  • BASIC DYEING (Beginners) – this is the class for beginners. Learn to make your own fabric using the simple plastic bag method. Make gradations of colour, mix colours and make a colour wheel of fabrics.  This class gives you an understanding of how dyes work and the confidence to use them.  Plenty of notes to take home.
  • BEYOND THE BASICS DYEING (Intermediate)– You’ve already learnt basic bag dyeing, and now you want to know how to produce colour blends and specific colours.  Here we use more elaborate techniques and work with print paste.  More in-depth than the basic class.
  • SURFACE DESIGN (All levels, but some dyeing experience recommended) -2 DAYS) – For those who want to produce unique fabric.  In this class we make our own stamps and use these with thickened dyes, along with sponging, rolling, monoprints, various resists, discharge, paints, sunprints, salting, stencils, shibori and more.
